About Us

At the Office

We are a branch of the Federal Highway Administration that operates under the umbrella of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

We are one of three Federal Lands Highway offices and we have operated continuously from the same building at 610 East 5th Street in Vancouver, Washington, since 1932.

We are engineers, planners, environmental protection specialists, project managers, and contract specialists dedicated to providing quality roads and highways.

What We Do

Out in the Field

The Western Federal Lands Highway Division (WFLHD) surveys, designs, and constructs roads, highways, and bridges on federally-owned lands. These include national park and national forest highways, Indian reservation roads, defense access roads, and other federal lands roads. At WFLHD, we are innovators in providing training, technology deployment, and engineering services to our partners and other customers. WFLHD operates as part of the U.S. Department of Transportation and serves the needs of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, and Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks in Wyoming.

Our projects bring job opportunities to local and regional economies.
